Halloween (2007)
Rob Zombie's remake of John Carpenter's Halloween is just one of many in the series franchise. While Rob Zombie's film stays generally true to the original in plot, it differs in several ways. It provides more insight into into the Myers family, portraying their household as dysfunctional and abusive. Michael shows all the classic early warning signs of a serial killer. He tortures small then larger animals and then people. He not only kills his older sister, but her boyfriend and his mother's boyfriend as well. His relationship with psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis and years spent in the mental institution is also examined.
The second most obvious way that the remake differs from the original is in style. Zombie incorporates home movie footage, slow motion camera movements, stylistic re-enactments to bring a contemporary feel to the film. Unlike the original film which had very little blood and gore, Rob Zombie's film takes full advantage of the brutal killings and gore to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
