Zombie (1979)
In New York City, a journalist and a young woman investigate the source of a fatal attack of a Harbor Patrol officer. Soon after they find themselves traveling to a tropical island where the boat originated. The boat belonged to the woman’s father who was conducting research on the tropical island of Matool. What they find is the dead attacking the living. They barely manage to escape unscathed and head back to NYC where they find the dead have already taken over.
Also known as Zombi 2, Zombies, Zombie Island, Zombie Flesh-Eaters and Woodoo, Zombie was released to great commercial success in Europe and has been credited with reviving director Lucio Fulci's career. The film contains several of Fulci's trademarks, including characters who are impaled or stabbed through the eye, shuffling zombies and no shortage of gore. What the film is famous for (but which has not become one of the director's trademarks) is a fight scene between a zombie and a shark.
