When a stranger calls (2006)
A teenage girl is forced to babysit to pay for going over her minutes on her cell phone. When she arrives at the elaborate house she is a bit intimidated by its isolation and grandeur. As the night wears on she begins receiving threatening phone calls asking her if she’s checked the children. She reports the calls to the police who ask her to try to keep the man on the phone so they can trace it. After a few more phone calls, the police inform her that the calls are coming from inside the house. Investigating the house, Jill is attacked and desperately tries to save herself and the children from the killer.
The film is a remake of the 1979 film directed by Fred Walton. While the remake takes place in the course of one evening, the original follows Jill Johnson from a night of terrifying babysitting as a teen to adulthood. Both the original and remake are based on the urban legend about the baby-sitter and the man upstairs. The remake director Simon West is best known for his earlier films Con Air (1997) and The General's Daughter (1999).
