The RIng (2002)
After her niece is found dead, a journalist finds herself investigating a mysterious tape which claims to kill the viewer in exactly seven days. The images on the tape lead her to a small island in which a family was haunted by disturbing visions of their young daughter. In a race against time, Rachel's research leads her and her former boyfriend and father of her son to a deserted well where the body of the young girl is found. By freeing the young girl's body from the well, Rachel is convinced that the curse is lifted. That is until her son, who has been having visions, tells her that she’ll keep on killing. The only way to survive is to share the tape.
A remake of the 1998 Japanese film Ringu directed by Hideo Nakata, which at the time of its release was considered the scariest film of all times and certainly the highest grossing horror film in Japan. The success of The Ring opened up the doors to several other remakes of Japanese horror films including The Grudge (2004) and Dark Water (2005).
