The Last House on the left (2009)
A young girl, Mari, on vacation with her parents, heads out to spend the afternoon with her friend. Meanwhile, a murderer has broken out of prison and meets up with his equally deranged friends. Mari and her friend have the misfortune of running into the group and are ultimately raped, beaten and treated sadistically by them. By chance the group take them to the woods near Mari’s house. Mari manages to escape and the group seeks refuge at her parents. When their daughter shows up, they figure out the horrors the group inflicted and exact a grueling revenge in return.
A remake of Wes Craven's The Last House on the Left (1972). The original film was in fact inspired by the 1960 Swedish film The Virgin Spring, directed by Ingmar Bergman. Friday the 13th director Sean S. Cunningham produced the 1972 version and he and Craven serving as producer on the remake. Though he didn't want to direct, Craven wanted to see how the film could be remade with a higher budget than the original $90,000. Both films received criticism for excessive violence and realistic rape scenes. The trailer for the original advises the audience to repeat after themselves several times "It's only a movie. It's only a movie."
Director: Dennis Iliadis
Writer: Adam Alleca
Cast: Garet Dillahunt, Monica Potter
Running time: 110 minutes
Year: 2009
Studio: Rogue Pictures
