Shaun of the Dead (2004)
A slacker finds his calling when zombies attack London. In the midst of a zombie apocalypse, Shaun is content to walk around in mindless wander, he's got other things on his mind: unsatisfied with his job, recently dumped by his girlfriend, alienated by his mother and stepfather. When the increasingly violent world outside can no longer be ignored, Shaun (along with his best mate Ed) manages to mend fences with his stepfather, save his mother and girlfriend and seek refuge at his favorite pub, the Winchester.
A comedic look at the zombie genre, Shaun of the Dead came about from a British sitcom, Spaced, that Wright and Pegg both worked on. in the episode the main character, high on speed and playing a Resident Evil 2 video game hallucinates that he is fighting off a zombie invasion. The film makes numerous references to George A. Romero's zombie films, including most notably the title. Romero enjoyed the film so much he offered small roles to Pegg and Wright in his Land of the Dead (2005). Both played zombies. Shaun of the Dead with its clever comedic take on the genre was released to positive reception and commercial success.
