Scream (1996)
Sidney Prescott is still recovering from the murder of her mother when her peers (and then Sidney) become the target of of "Ghostface", a knife-wielding psychopath who is intent on killing most of the high school in-crowd. While living out a real life horror movie, Sidney and her horror savvy friends discuss the rules of horror films, contemplating who the killer could be and who will be the next victim, all while trying to stay alive.
With Wes Craven's horror film background, its no surprise that he managed to revive a tired genre and added a new level of reflexivity to it. By casting young and older established actors, Scream took a new take on the genre and managed to attract an even wider audience with this tactic. The film was credited with reviving Craven's dwindling career. The script was written by Kevin Williamson and was partially inspired by the true story of the Gainesville Ripper, a man who killed several teenagers in Gainse
